SUPER RETRO

It’s the 1980s all over again! The limits of Interior Styling are never-ending, and most often interior trends from the past are reinvented and recreated for the modern world today. Interior Decorators such as Jonathan Adler are infamous for taking inspiration from the retro era of 1950s-1980s and modernizing them to suit trends today. Splashes of hot pinks, electric blues, lively yellows, neon greens and bright oranges are playfully used to contrast each other in a harmonious way. Of course, the retro-look is not everyone’s cup of tea. This has to be tastefully done to a point where the engaging viewer can still bask in an interior environment in peace and not be shocked by the explosion of colours they are presented with. Standout furniture pieces from the retro era are re-introduced today, as pastel-coloured kitchen appliances are suddenly making a comeback, as well as bucket seats and neon-coloured upholstery. The retro interior trend is successful because of one dominating factor – it exudes a feeling of familiarity, reassurance and slight nostalgia. We are willing to engage in a colourful, geometric and retro environment because it is familiar to us, there is nothing like reliving the good old memories of the past!
